Deep down, you know that a developer went out of their way to create a mystery for the player to solve, or to put in a cool reference to another work of art. But in the heat of the moment, in the thrill of the chase, you feel like a detective pulling at a thread, ready to unveil whatever may be behind the curtain. There are few developers better at eliciting this feeling than Rockstar , and the Easter Eggs in Red Dead Redemption 2 certainly keep their reputation alive. Here’s what we’ve found so far in Red Dead Redemptio

The most controversial games created by Rockstar have to be their Manhunt series. The first Manhunt was released in 2003 and seemed destined for damnation from the beginning. A stealth based horror game, Manhunt requires you to play as the main character James Earl Cash, a death row inmate. In order to progress through the game, you had to murder gang members, with the method of murder becoming quite graphic and obscene, in ways never seen before on any platform. It included things like suffocating people with plastic bags to the use of blunt force trauma. Manhunt created many problems for Rockstar due to its graphic nature. There were reports of a split in the company, with many people worried about how dark the game was. However, Rockstar was no stranger to controversy at the time, receiving a lot of attention over their previous GTA releases. However, Manhunt was even worse. The game was it was banned in New Zealand and confiscated in Germany. It received even more negative press when it was implicated in a UK murder, although the game was eventually absolved of all involvement. Although it received many positive reviews, was all the negativity really worth

Red Dead Redemption is one of the best video games ever made. It’s not up for debate. Rockstar took the wildly successful Grand Theft Auto open-world formula, threw it in the tumultuous Wild West, and made the story more engaging than “drive here, shoot them, drive back.” Some may still dismiss it as GTA with horses, but they are dreadfully wr

While Red Dead Redemption 2 will largely focus around Arthur Morgan, the dutiful right-hand man of Dutch Van der Linde, an even more significant portion of the game will revolve around the gang itself and Arthur’s relationships with each member of the outlaw gang as they try to outrun the law and survive in the vastness of the American West.

In the town of Blackwater, John encounters a sobbing pregnant woman who’s praying at a church. She asks him to go to the child’s father to ask him for money so she can have a better life for her and her child. When John finds the father, who (surprise!) is a total asshole, he challenges John to a standoff for insulting his honor. John guns him down, loots his body for cash, and heads back to the sobbing mot

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson ( Boogie Nights , Punch-Drunk Love ) and featuring a towering Academy Award-winning performance from Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood ‘s emphasis on the struggles between the old ways of the West and the impending boom of the oil industry carries with it several ties to the time period that the Red Dead titles have explored, and likely will play into the themes of Red Dead Redemption 2 .

One of the interesting, yet grotesque mechanics in Red Dead Redemption was the skinning of hunted animals. The animal itself was full of blood splatter and oddly accurate noises. Now, we didn’t get a look at whether or not that exact process is part of this Bennett new skin Red Dead adventure, but we were treated to a hint at a possible new mechanic. One of the scenes shows a man guidimh his horse back to what seems to be his home. The horse is carrying a deer carcass, as well as a few other supplies. Does this mean that players will not only have to kill animals, but also harvest them by taking their entire carcass back to base? We really have no idea, but it would add a lot of depth to a repetitive, yet fulfilling mecha

2017 is shaping up to be a landmark year for video games. Not only do we have the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Horizon: Zero Dawn , and Persona 5 already released, but Wolfenstein: The New Colossus , Crackdown 3 , Far Cry 5 , and God of War are all set to release before spring 2018. Red Dead may be a beloved game, but it doesn’t have the name recognition of Rockstar’s other big open-world crime game, or the popularity of some of the other games coming out. Even with this delay moving it away from the likes of Call of Duty WW2 and Battlefront 2 , the game still has to go up against some of the most highly anticipated titles of the past couple of ye

On a corner in Blackwater, John comes across a reverend ranting about the evils of alcohol and calling for men to give it up in order to obtain true freedom in their lives. Although John doesn’t necessarily agree, their exchange is friendly enough, and they both continue on with their lives. Move a bit down the block, and a local bootlegger pulls John aside and offers him some money to kill the reverend and silence his loud, public sermon permanen
