Mental Calculus will make your ranged accuracy more precise and help exploit weak points on enemies across Arrakis. The Assassination tree includes skills that enable single-target elimination through the use of poison and a unique Hunter-Seeker ability that kills enemies without causing alarm. Finally, the Tactician skill tree focuses on support skills and controlling crowds of enemies, as well as manipulating aspects of the battlefield during larger combat encount

The Swordmaster class is a melee-focused, close-quarters fighting class designed around the Ginaz School of fighting. This style “represent[s] the pinnacle of fighting prowess in the Known Universe” and features intricate methods for cutting through Holtzman Shields and defeating enemies with bladed weapons. As with all classes in Dune: Awakening , Swordmaster has three distinct specializations, each with an associated skill tree, which include The Blade, The Will, and The

We made a few mistakes when first starting out, mostly exploring further than we were meant to at the beginning. In the first zone, the Hagga Basin, the main quest will take you to every important location – this means you won’t need to explore the same areas twice, and you won’t need to try and tackle them when your gear is under-leve

So, before you set out on a journey away from your sub-fief, make sure you drink as much water as you can, filling up any water containers you may have, and then deposit as much blood as you can into the system, so that it can filter more water for you while you’re away. In this way, you can rest easy knowing that you always have more water coming your

The game will force you to transfer your base to the next zone, which means you’ll need to dismantle it anyway. One of the biggest chokepoints for quick progression in Dune: Awakening is just how long it takes to walk from each point of interest, or to the trading p

Unlike water, ammunition is plentiful and you’re introduced to weapon-crafting early on. With unique tools for blood extraction, placing respawn points, and resource mining, your inventory is full of gadgets. Rather than using pickaxes to farm copper ore, you use a lore-certified laser cutter. Getting there took us through a stealth sequence, where we were tasked with the sight of gigantic eyes. As we did so, voices narrated various events surrounding the Fremen and Mauddib (although this would not be in reference to Paul per Dune: Awakening ‘s spin on the lore ). Completing this trial saw us receive a new task from Zantara: finding a moisture-sealed cave to acquire some Fremen compone

This is because, later in the game, you’ll be tasked with abandoning your sub-fief and moving beyond the starting area. The more you build up your sub-fief early, the more you can take with you later on. Exploring the ship taught us combat basics like how to parry and how to dash, how dehydration basics work, and its use of Pentashield Barriers (to block off certain areas) introduced us to how dungeons in Dune: Awakening would be managed. After finding the commander, the game shifted toward a cinematic where Zantara and I seized an Ornithopter and flew off, losing the enemies in a storm to also become stranded on Arrakis once more. That’s not really the case with Dune: Awakening because there is so much to it that we couldn’t experience in this timeframe. Dune: Awakening has a lot of unique mechanical elements, and that’s probably what stood out the most. The mechanics are fully Dune and can be fun to play with. However, having just played six hours of a game that Funcom hopes keeps players immersed for hundreds of hours, it’s hard to say how much we really experienced the game. If anything, it felt like a few grains of sand in the otherwise endless dunes of Arra
